About Us
LARRY DEAL, FOUNDER & GENERAL CONTRACTOR
Larry graduated from Western Carolina University with a degree in psychology in 1976. After being in the helping field for four years, his dreams led him to construction and real estate. Larry Deal has been on a quest for energy-efficient and affordable homes since he built his first earth-berm passive solar house in 1984 for his own family.
Larry believes homes should be sustainable, energy-efficient, affordable, and comfortable. He feels a smaller, well-designed home can be much more rewarding to live in than the aimless sprawl of interior spaces that dominated the 1990s. "Helping people has always been a priority in my life. I have always been a giver and have aspired to give back not only to the community but also to our beautiful earth." To make his dream a reality, Larry formed New Earth Shelters in 2012 after spending years working in the timber frame building industry.
Superior Homes USA and building pre-insulated concrete and timber frame shells is Larry's current iteration of his vision for affordable, efficient, and durable homes, a way of building that he thinks has been missing in our housing industry. And today more than ever with the growing impact of climate change, it is important to build homes that are climate resilient and much safer than conventional stick-built homes.

Larry is also a multi-instrumentalist who plays new mountain bluegrass at local venues with his band, The Big Deal Band. This keeps him grounded and energized. He is a devoted father and grandfather, and a loyal partner and friend. Larry considers himself a dreamer and finds comfort knowing he is "not the only one."

Photos of Larry's first earth berm concrete home built 39 years ago in Louisville, Kentucky. "I was a few years ahead of my time back in the early 1980's. Some of my peers thought I was crazy. "

Larry planted strawberries on the east side berm for ground cover. His kids enjoyed picking them!
